Observations and musings on Jacksonville Politics

Vote for Matt Shirk? Yes, really.

You know, we’ve gotten such a great response to our Matt Shirk celebration poll, we thought our readers would love the opportunity to vote for Matt Shirk again.  Yes, really.  This time he’s in the running for the 2nd Annual Worst Prosecutor of the Year on The Agitator, Radley Balko’s blog.

Yes, our own darling, “pretty boy Matt”,  is in the running with 6 heavy-hitters: US Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan,  Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood, Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert, Assistant US Attorney Brett Grayson,  Lake County Illinois Prosecutor Michael Mermel, and the Connecticut prosecutors in the Julie Amero case.

Please help Matt win this prestigious award.  Click on http://www.theagitator.com/2008/12/22/monday-morning-poll-the-2nd-annual-worst-prosecutor-of-the-year-wopoty-award/ and vote in the poll.

    Please read this article:

Mary Beth Buchanan’s win is well deserved.

I read the Reason article and you’re right, James – she is pretty reprehensible. The fact that she was allowed to continue in her position in light of a long-standing series of really, really bad decisions is also reprehensible. She should have been removed from her position years ago.

That notwithstanding, I’ve still gotta go with my hometown boy, “pretty boy Matt”. I thought he was making a pretty decent showing for a newbie – in 4th place out of 7. BTW, I see that the voting poll is still open. I know my boy probably can’t beat out Mary Beth, but maybe he can still move up in the standings to get a “Mr. Congeniality” award or something.

I’m a supporter, but pullin’ for Shirk to win this! The facts are completely untrue and misinterpreted.

    I voted for Shirk, classic.

She no only continued. She was given awards and promotions. As for Dr. Bernard Rottschaefer, he is sitting in a jail cell spending his twilight years. The physician is guilty for prescribing a legal medication to patients for ailments that the medication is approved to treat and for ailments that other physicians independently diagnosed and treated with the same medications, although in stronger dosages, than Dr. Rottschaefer.

Not saying that your guy Shirk is not due a vote as well, but there is always next year. This year, hopefully, will be the last year Buchanan is in office.

Also, you may wish to review the wiki site on Buchanan:
