Observations and musings on Jacksonville Politics

Richard Clark ain’t no Jeb Bush

Richard Clark is a busy man.  There’s no question about that.  After all, being a part-time City Council Member in Jacksonville while simultaneously working in one’s mother’s business would indicate a rather assiduous schedule.  It’s certainly much more demanding that being, let’s say, Governor of Florida, right?

While Jeb Bush was well known for responding personally to thousands upon thousands of e-mails while Governor of Florida (many times via his Blackberry), Council Vice President Richard Clark is apparently too busy to answer his own e-mails.  (And, apparently, his own phone calls.)  Word on the street is that a Jacksonville resident e-mailed Mr. Clark with specific questions on 11/14 and was responded to on the same day, not by Mr. Clark, but by Steve Rohan of the General Counsel’s Office on behalf of Mr. Clark.  (And, no, the e-mail did not ask any questions that needed a legal answer.)

According to the same resident, she has obtained a copy of a Voice Mail left on another Jacksonville residents Voice Mail by someone claiming to be a “Representative of Councilman Clark” responding to a public records request.

Perhaps the resident put it best when she asked:

Does this mean that Councilman Clark does not answer directly to constitutents (other than developers’ agents, to whom he obviously does answer as you indicate he met with one), that he answers to YOU as his counsel when his constitutents inquire of him and then you as his attorney answer the public, rather than the Councilmember or his assistant answering directly to the public as do all of the other ones?

Interesting comment about GC Rohand. I have found that Steve has a good reputation for getting back with citizens.

I noticed that Richard Clark had no comment when the TU contacted him about the Waste Management no-bid contract in their story (http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/111908/met_357519422.shtml)today. I guess Steve Rohan wasn’t available. lol

Perhaps thats because he hadn’t received his marching orders from the Mayor’s Office yet. Of course, one would assume that he would know exactly how the Mayor has dictated he vote. To date, he has shown absolutely no ability to differentiate himself from the Mayor.

But he will be the next city council president. The people need to start standing up to put a stop to the corruption.
